The easiest way for most of us to shoot video is with our mobile devices. Fortunately, it’s easy to move videos from your iOS device to the Kaltura streaming server, from where you can share with students and others.

Here’s one method*, using the Safari app and Canvas:

  • if you can’t upload: on your iPad or iPhone, go to Settings > Safari, Privacy section, turn off “Prevent Cross-Site Tracking” (this step may be required to allow uploads via Safari, from Kaltura)
  • launch the Safari app, go to Canvas, and log in with your NetID and password
  • choose My Kaltura Media from the red global navigation bar.
  • from the Add New drop-down menu, choose Media Upload
  • click “Choose a file to upload” and THEN select an option:
    • “take photo or video” (for creating video on the fly)
      • to record new video, change camera mode to video, click red button, record, and end
      • use this video creation method only for short webcam videos, like a class announcement (use Kaltura CaptureSpace on a Mac or Windows computer for fancier presentations)
    • Photo Library (to select a video already stored on your iPad)
    • Browse… gives you options like iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or OneDrive if you have existing video stored on one of these services
  • back in Kaltura, give your new video a name and click Save
  • then click Go To My Media, although there may be a slight delay while your video processes
  • now you can do some basic editing and share the video by link or by embedding, with tips on our Multimedia support page

*other methods include transferring video from iOS device to a computer.
