Dropping the lowest grade in Gradebook

Note: In order to set this up in Gradebook, the following requirements must be met:

  • Have categories enabled (with or without weighting); this can be done in “Gradebook setup”
  • Each assignment in the category must be worth the same amount of points (for example, all quizzes must be worth 10 points; you can’t have one quiz worth 10 points and one quiz worth 20 points)

Instructions

  • click “Gradebook” while in your Sakai site
  • click the gray button at the top: Gradebook Setup
  • under the “Categories and Weighting” heading, you should see three choices. Select “Enable Drop Lowest” (as pictured below)

Enable drop lowest is selected

  • a column will appear to the right of all of your categories enabling you to pick the number of assignments in each category you would like dropped. Enter the number of assignments you would like dropped from the grade in the text box to the right of the category (see example below– in this example, the one lowest quiz grade will be dropped)

Example of entering a number of scores to drop

  • click “Save changes”
  • to check to make sure the changes have been made: At the top of the page, click the gray “Gradebook Items” button
  • scroll down to the grades: to the right of the category title from which you have chosen to drop a grade, the words (Drop 1 lowest) should appear (or whatever number you have chosen)
