Sakai: Hide a folder in Resources
Often if you create a new course site based on a previous semester’s site, you’ll need to hide some of the Resources from students.
hide an existing folder
- log into Sakai and click on the tab for the new course
- choose Resources from the left-hand menu
- to the right of the folder you wish to hide, click the “Actions” drop-down menu and select “Edit Details”
- in the “Availability and Access” section, click the radio button marked “Hide this folder and its contents”
- scroll to the end of the page and click “Update”
- the folder will looked grayed out to you, but will be hidden completely from student view until you change the availability details
move documents into a new hidden subfolder
- log into Sakai and click on the tab for the new course
- choose Resources from the left-hand menu
- to the right of the top-level folder, click the “Add” drop-down menu and select “Create folders”
- for the Folder Name, type something like “last year’s docs,” then click the “Add details for this item” link
- in the “Availability and Access” section, click the radio button marked “Hide this folder and its contents”
- scroll to the end of the page and click “Create folders now”
- you have created a hidden folder, so any documents you move into that folder will also be hidden from student view
- to move documents and/or subfolders into your new hidden folder:
- select each item to be moved by checking the box to its left (note that you can select all documents with the checkbox at the top of the column; sometimes it’s easier to select all then deselect the documents you don’t need to move)
- at the top of the list of Resources, click the “Move” link
- next, locate your new hidden folder, click the “Actions” drop-down menu to its right, and select “Paste moved items” (or use the paste icon on the same line)
- your moved items should now appear indented under the hidden folder and are thus hidden from students
