Sakai: Add resources

  • log into Sakai and click on the tab for your course
  • choose Resources from the left-hand menu
  • you’ll see at least one folder (the “top-level” folder is called YourCourseName Resources)
  • to the right of the top-level folder, click the “Add” drop-down menu and select:
    • “Upload files” for any kind of document you can upload, like a .doc, .pdf, .ppt, etc.
    • “Create folders” to add an organizing structure; e.g., a subfolder called “Lectures” for all your PowerPoint presentations or a subfolder called “Useful Links”; or
    • “Add web links”
  • the info you provide will depend on the choice you made above

Upload files

  • you can drag and drop files from your computer into the “Drop files here to upload” area, or click the “Drop files to upload” image browse and navigate through your computer until you locate the appropriate file for upload
  • your file will appear in a box on the screen; click Continue or do one of the following and then click Continue:
    • click the screen (near the box, in the white space) to upload more files
    • drag and drop more files into white space on the screen
  • you will be returned to the Resources list, with your new file showing, indented under its parent folder

To change the file name after uploading

  • click the “Actions” drop down menu to the right of the file in Resources
  • choose “Edit Details”
  • you can edit the name in the “Name” text box (note: it is probably a good idea to leave the file extension on the file- .docx, .doc, .pdf, .pptx, etc. so the students are aware of the file type they are downloading)
  • scroll down and click “Update”
