PowerPoint soundtrack

There are a few different options for playing soundtrack music during a PowerPoint slideshow.

  1. You can play a track from a CD, where the playing is triggered by a particular slide. This requires that you have the music CD in the CD drive while the PP presentation is running--a problem if you've stored the PP file on a CD-R. (If you're interested in this method, insert a music CD and launch PowerPoint. On the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, and then click Play CD Audio Track.)
  2. In most cases, the better option is to play a music track you have stored on your computer (PowerPoint should play mp3's and a few other formats).
    • Copy your mp3 file to the same location as your PowerPoint presentation
    • Open your PowerPoint presentation in normal view
    • click on the slide from which you want to start the music (often the title slide)
    • on the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, and then click Select Sound From File
    • select your mp3 file and click OK
    • you will be prompted: "do you want your sound to play automatically?" Answer Yes to make the music start when this slide displays. Answer No and you will have to click on the music icon to start the track during your slideshow
    • to set up a soundtrack loop, right-click on the music icon and select Edit Sound Object, then click "Loop until stopped"
    • to keep the music playing for more than the current slide, right-click on the music icon and select Custom Animation. Then, in the Custom Animation task pane, click the drop-down arrow to the right of your sound file and choose Effect Options. In the Stop Playing section, select "After # slides" and fill in the # with the length of your slideshow.
Important: Make sure you copy your mp3 file along with your PowerPoint file when you take it on the road!
