Sakai: Document sharing overview

There are several tools in Sakai that facilitate the sharing of documents between students and instructors.

Share with full class

Public sharing–among all participants in a Sakai site–can be best done via Discussions or Resources. To allow discussion of submitted documents, use the Discussion tool, where students can post a topic that includes their document as an attachment. Other students can then comment on their classmates’ submissions. To share student documents without the commenting feature, create a special folder in the Resources tool to allow student uploads.

Share between instructor and individual student

Private sharing, between one student and an instructor, is best done with the Assignments tool (generally for submissions that will be graded) or Dropbox (often used for rough drafts or other ungraded documents).
